Michael
grew up in Northern Virginia with a silver spoon surgically
implanted in his mouth. At the age of 16 he decided to put
the spoon to good use and headed to a New England boarding
school where they ate off silver platters. Fearing for his
life, Michael shirked the horrific confines of a public university
and took off for Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Michael
stayed in Music City after graduating and went to work interviewing
the lifeblood of American Industry: truckers. Nine months
of Peterbilt and Mack trucks drove Michael to his current
editorial position at the American Psychiatric Association.
However, having been born and bred on lobster and caviar,
Michael was not long for the 9 to 5 rat-race and he decided
to forge out on his own; thus began Pelican Publishing. The
logic behind this move: 1) I'd give anything to be my own
boss, 2) It'd be great if I could work with my friends, and
3) What if I could do 1 and 2, and listen to some great tunes
at the same time!

"the Tornado" is also a native of Northern Virginia
who followed an educational path similar to that of his older
brother. Although improvisational music is one of his passions,
and he has had some musical training with the recorder and
the spoons, unfortunately he has not been able to pursue a
successful career in a band. Thus when his brother appraoched
him with the idea that has now become Pelican Publishing,
he put his spoons away and gave himself the nickname "Tornado."
In addition to Pelican Publishing, Tim continues to study
and read so that he can some day get people to take themselves
a little less seriously and change the way they see the world
around them.
